Type of digital camera | Beginners Guide

The term camera is used for a device which is able to produce images from measurements for the physics and technology. In current digital age, we all have at least one camera in our pocket either in hand, we often use it to capture moments of fast running life.

In general life we often encounter with many type of cameras. Some of them are designed for the professionals and some for other type of users, which may not want to sink into the technicality of it.

Here I am explaining various type of Digital Cameras

1. Compact Digital Camera: also known as point - and - shoot camera is designed for very simple oper

ation. These cameras include focus less or auto focus and other automatic functions and settings with a built-in flash.

Very simply, a point-and-shoot camera is aptly named. Operators need not be versed in photographic technique and terminology to take a picture; they just need to point and shoot, and the camera automatically does the rest. Although a point-and-shoot digital camera is significantly smaller and seeming less complex than DSLRs, there are plenty of professional photographers who prefer this type of camera for various situations.

2. DSLR | Digital Single Lens Reflex: This is the advance generation of cameras, which is widely used by serious, amateur, enthusiast and professional photographers.

DSLR also have some sub category…

a. Beginners cameras (Nikon D3200, Nikon D5600, Canon 1200D, Canon 200D etc.)

b. Mid-Range Cameras (Nikon D7200, Nikon D7500, Canon 700D, Canon 80D etc.)

c. Professional Cameras (Nikon D810, Nikon D850, Canon 5D, Nikon D4/D5 , Canon 1D etc)

DSLR also can be divided into these two type based on the size of the sensor used for

a. Crop Sensor / Dx sensor / APSC sensor camera

b. Full Frame / 35mm sensor camera

Full frame camera body uses almost the double size of sensor then the crop sensor camera. In a full frame camera body, you will get a sensor size of 35mm x 24mm, which is called a 35mm size sensor and in crop sensor camera body will have a sensor size of 24mm x 16mm (Canon 22mm x 15mm) which called Dx or APSC sensor.

3. Bridge Camera: Bridge cameras are cameras that fill the niche between the single-lens reflex cameras (SLRs) and the point-and-shoot camera.

They are often comparable in size and weight to the smallest digital SLRs (DSLR) and there are also superzoom DSLR-shape bridge cameras with retractable lens to make it more compact, but almost all digital bridge cameras lack an optical viewfinder system (film bridges generally had a lighter version of a reflex finder). In addition, SLRs normally feature interchangeable lenses, while current bridge cameras do not. They are prominent in the prosumer market segment. The phrase has been in use at least since the 1980s, and continues to be used with digital cameras. The term "bridge camera" was originally used to refer to film cameras which "bridged the gap" between point-and-shoot cameras and SLRs

4. Mirrorless Camera: A mirrorless interchangeable lens camera (MILC) is a digital camera that has a lens mount like a conventional single-lens reflex (SLR) camera, but uses a digital display system rather than an optical mirror and optical viewfinder.

The name includes "mirrorless" because it does not have an optical mirror as in a conventional SLR, and "interchangeable lens" because the user can mount different lenses on the camera in order to customize the camera's optical characteristics. A MILC can be considered a further evolution phase of the conversion of an SLR camera into a digital system, in which the optical mirror and optical viewfinder are replaced with a digital image display system
